One of the important decisions I made was to fly Erwin to Guatemala and have him experience the “fleet” first hand. We went out fishing on Release, a 1961 37’ Merritt. What I wanted Erwin to see was the clean wake. I have never fished a boat that has a wake like that boat. The other unique characteristic is the way the boat slides through the water when you take her out of gear. This is a particularly important feature when Fly fishing for billfish. So, Erwin had his challenge – clean wake, modern bottom fast, comfortable, safe and efficient. Basically, everything the 37 Merritt was PLUS everything it wasn’t.
